Leaving on a Jet Plane...

I need to be at the airport in 11 hours, and I'm not fully packed yet. But that's ok, I think, because if I get too much sleep, I won't be able to sleep on the plane. So this will be a long post, because I've built up a lot to say.

(Edit: Make that 6 hours)

First off, Here's my flight schedule, for anyone who's interested:

I've unsubscribed from the Bujold, Stirling and Videssos lists (I never read the last one, might as well drop it) to save my email box. Below I'll have a Bujold related cut/extended speculation, so if someone wants to forward that under my name it'd be fine with me, I'll read the archives after I get situated in Dunedin. I have my address, but no phone number yet. I may setup one with the ISIC which will give me free voicemail, if people want to leave those. Past that, we'll have to see if I can get software magic working.

This was brought on by a comment someone made on the LJ bujold group, about dressing as Liss for BaltiCon. The thing that struck me somewhat was that no mention was made of the poster's age when this came up, although I do doubt she was 18. Now, certainly all costumes are by definition not the real person, and I'm not here to exhibit massive age bias, but I did wonder where it would lead.

So I thought, perhaps she'll represent the older Liss. But I think it's pretty clear Liss isn't going to remain a courier. As far as I can tell, we've fairly much reached the end of stories in Chalion, about the people we know there. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'll act like it's true anyway.

Unless Lois is being super evil with us, Foix and Liss are going to work out wonderfully, etc. So we'll see a formal proposal accepted in Visping, a beautiful marriage in probably the nicest spot in Chalion wherever that is, the Chancellor, a Saint, the Royesse and Royse attending.

Foix is going places. He's got the eye of the Royesse, the Chancellor, and everybody else who's clever. He's a sorcerer. The only way I see him not ending up as head of the Daughter's Order is if his brother Ferda takes is, and Foix becomes Chancellor. However, this arrangement sends warning bells about the dy Jironals to me, although Foix certainly isn't going to become head of the Son's Order too. Still, I expect Foix to be zooming up the ranks of the DO or somewhere very soon. Do you suppose he might become Chalion's first Admiral? [I'll admit, I'm not fond of the concept of sorcerers in general. I'm trying to ignore it, as a matter of fact. :-( ]

Ok, fine. What does Liss do? First off, I don't see her going for housewife. She'll probably stay with Ista for a while, but I really have to say I hope both of them split off before too long. She's probably going to want to stay around horses. So I expect her to go back to the courier service, as a leader. Whatever principle (Not Dilbert, not Peter) it is that says "People will be promoted if they're good and froody". So anyway, I expect Chalion to promote her away from the stables, and so I expect her to be doing interesting things.

The real big project besides packing this past while has been cleaning my room. You wouldn't know to look at it right now, but there are 4 boxes worth of old papers and stuff cleaned out and waiting to be tossed right now, and more done previously. In this I'm finding lots of old school work I've kept for no good reason, and a lot of things I've kept for good reason. It's kind of sad seeing old cards from people I didn't get to be as close as I'd like to, or notes that I didn't interpret in quite as good a way as I'd wish. Then there's the stuff I've written...

Back in Senior year of high school, I had an unrequited crush. I did eventually try to ask for something that might resemble a date near the end of the semester, but it didn't happen. Deterred by that, it never went anywhere from then on. I just found a piece I wrote about her in English class. I suppose I might as well post it, so you can see how bad I am at this stuff:
It's funny how things go as time passes. Courtney, you're still how I saw you then. I sure hope my writing's improved since then, though.

Sonnet No. 1

I love a lady of beauty unmatch'd
She is as a wood-nymph lithe and merry.
Her voice a song-bird's song has me entranced,
Her fine skin draws me to her, sleep, dusky.

I wish I had a hundred years with her
To hold her in my arms
Her smallest wish is my great endeavor

I find I am taken so by her charms
She is as soft and gentle kind as can be.
These virtues she has have stolen my heart.
But she knows not my love and this pains me
She does not love me and this wound does smart.

I love you lady though you know it not,
Trapped by my heart I'm a fly by web caught.

(End)

You know, I'm glad she hasn't read that now.
Yes, she's still super hot and attends Trinity.

Heather Alexander ROCKS!! I got her CD on Thursday, didn't get a chance to listen to it all Friday, so I've been playing it all day. Thanks rusty76 for telling me about that backup band you got a CD from, I'll have to look into them. But Heather is now just about at the top of my "buy whenever money turns up" list. Just amazing. I really like "March of Cambreadth", but it's "Only the Music" that's captured my heart. It's a beautiful waltz, and if only I'd known, I could have gotten it played for one of my last dances in ballroom... Oh well. Must find Kiwi Waltzers.
