Roundup

Ok, this is designed to cover what went on for me since I last talked about my life, which makes it since last Sunday or so. There's a cut for most days, and you can see them all at once by clicking on the comment link.

Spent all day working at the same fencing tourney as Saturday (previous post). That was 9a-7:15p

Then went to see The Fantasticks, put on by The Broccoli Project, which is the Plan II Theater group. Really cool folks, if a bit to serious about that "artsy" image. But a really good show, and if it wasn't a Broadway quality production, the fact it was almost all friends up there made all the difference. Rotimi (African international student, suave and very much the object of much lust) played an excellent El Gallo, and cracked me up throughly with a line that I'm certain wasn't in the original. Sometime the "first class rape" scene, El Gallo, as the abductioner, is confronted by the boy character and asked "Are you El Gay-o?", which is referring to a mispronunciation that has occurred in several previous lines. Rotimi brushes boy's chest with his finger and says in what isn't even his most seductive voice "Only sometimes".

The boy really cracked me up, because he said stuff like "I'm almost 20, I'm too old to feel like that..." Lemme tell you son, lemme tell you...

There was also a great song and dance routine about vegetables.

Forget what I did after that, probably hung out online.

Monday: I forget everything.

I've forgotten everything from that day, except that in the dance class we taught the lazy polka, which is my very favorite dance we do. Got a lot of that in, and then we started on Tango. w00t!!!!

Wednesday: Forgotten everything

Thursday I got in a big panic about not having my Study Abroad app turned in on time, but on Friday I discovered it wasn't due until 11/15/03, at the latest. Still need to revise my essay.

Well, Friday was kind of full. I stayed up all night before working on essays, including reading Animal Farm and doing my standard 1 pager on that, as well as both local and program Study Abroad apps, their essay, and so forth. Many thanks to

Well, Friday was kind of full. I stayed up all night before working on essays, including reading Animal Farm and doing my standard 1 pager on that, as well as both local and program Study Abroad apps, their essay, and so forth. Many thanks to <lj-user="marnan"> for keeping me away with chat, and my sincere apologies to her for getting snippy. I also read a lot of The Phoenix Guards, because I was getting a little off-balance.

Then I picked up the application fee check from my mother (I've misplaced my refill checks in my home room somewhere, so I can't write any more at the moment) drank coffee for the 2nd time this semester and went to class. After class, called a friend who has been having some problems and who'd indicated she wanted to talk. She ended up coming over and we had a long personal discussion, which more or less confirmed that there's nothing I can do for her, because she's dead set in her ways. At some point I'll have to pull the "And how's that working out for you?" line, but it wouldn't do anything right now. She wanted me to watch "Down with Love", which she seemed to think highly relevent to her situation. I disagree, but we didn't see the whole movie. Maybe it does a big twist at the end, but for all I saw she needed the opposite lesson.

When it hit 9:30, she decided she was getting up early in the morning and needed to return to her place, so I walked her back and then proceeded to hurry home and prep my costume. Not having cut eyeholes yet in the cloth that would serve as my mask, that took a while. Eventually got...

my Dread Pirate Roberts costume together, and took it to the party. Somehow, despite showing up nearly 3/4 of an hour later than I ever have before, I still managed to arrive right at 10 minutes before real partygoers started attending. It got crowded real quick, and quite cool. Lots of nice costumes, a whole lot of them. There was a UT Tower, and a very nice Underworld vampire, and a guy who dressed up as the host, and another as our program director, and so forth. One girl in a red white and blue bikini, didn't ask more. One very visible lightning bug on the dance floor, with a dome light taped to her rear. It was good, I didn't drink all that much, and I left around 2:30.

Saturday and Sunday get their own post, inserted before this one.

Woke up at home, came in to school with Dad (and left my pillow, so I must do without tonight).

We prepped for our mid-term in fencing. I'm not sure I'm fully ready, but I think I'll do alright. After some practice, we played some games. In one of them it boiled down to Josh the TA and me, and when he scooped up a spare foil and went at me two-bladed I was momentarily struck. I can't complain too much, as he got me on my way back up from stooping to copy his move. Afterwards I mentioned I thought that ungentlemanly. He replied that one should always fight with honor, but not necessarily fair. Since I agree, I had carefully not used those words. I challenged him anyway (as he'd invited us all to do at the close of class) and lost 5-4. The instructor was impressed by that. :) Ego ++

Academics was boring as always, and afterwards I just came back, had dinner, and have been working on email, web catching up, and need to do a little more schoolwork.
